The Office

      Reasoned debate between rational minds open to the truth
is a healthy thing for a democracy. Unreasoned, emotional personal
attack against any individual is not.
      The U.S. Presidency is the most powerful, most consequential
position of power and influence in the world. Whoever sits in the
Oval Office bears the awesome responsibility of exercising that
power wisely; with a healthy respect for the office and his role
as leader of the free world.
      On the other hand we, the American people: Republicans,
Democrats, Independents, Mainstream Media, and all others--
who, in our democracy, are free to criticize our government
and its duly elected President, must always keep separate our
personal feeling toward the current office holder and the office
itself. There is too much at stake for us, and the world, to allow
our disagreements with the man tarnish the office he temporarily
holds.
